Looking for a Mint alternative?

Mint is gone. This one never wanted your bank login.

Intuit shut Mint down in 2024 and moved everyone to Credit Karma. If you would rather not keep your spending inside a credit product, and never liked handing over a bank login in the first place, Smara is built the other way: you upload your statements, and nothing connects to your bank.

No bank login, no bank connection, ever.

The swap

What changes when you come from Mint.

Mint linked your accounts

It logged into your banks through an aggregator and pulled everything automatically. Convenient, but it meant your credentials sat with a third party.

Smara reads what you upload

You export a PDF or CSV statement and drop it in. Smara reads it, sorts the month, and combines every account in one place. No connection, nothing to leak.

Being straight with you

Mint did some things Smara doesn't.

We would rather tell you up front than have you find out later. Mint synced automatically, so it updated without you lifting a finger; with Smara you upload statements, which takes a minute but keeps your bank login out of it. Mint showed a US credit score and pushed product recommendations; Smara does neither. And Smara is younger and smaller than Mint ever was. What we are sure about: your accounts in one place, no bank connection, your data never sold, and you can export everything whenever you like.

Questions

Coming from Mint, answered.

Why did Mint shut down?

Intuit closed Mint in early 2024 and pointed users to Credit Karma. A lot of people did not want their spending tracking living inside a credit product, which is part of why so many went looking for something simpler and more private.

Does Smara connect to my bank like Mint did?

No. That is the main difference. Mint linked your bank accounts; Smara has no bank connection at all. You upload a statement and it does the sorting, so your bank login is never involved.

Can I bring my old data over?

You can upload past statements to rebuild your history, and you can export everything out of Smara whenever you want. There is no lock-in.

Is Smara free like Mint was?

There is a free plan you keep for good: all your accounts in one place and two statement reads a month. Mint was free because it made money recommending financial products to you. We do not do that; we never sell your data, and Premium is what funds the app.

A fresh start for your money, without the bank login.
