Privacy

Smara is a finance app, so we'll be plain about this: we never connect to your bank, we never sell your data, and you can export everything you've put in, anytime. The rest of this page spells out what that means.

What Smara stores

When you use the app, Smara stores the things you put into it so it can show them back to you:

• The transactions you type in or upload: dates, descriptions, amounts, categories, accounts.
• Your account email, used to sign in and to contact you about your account.
• Settings you choose, like your goals, budgets, and currencies.

Your data is cloud-backed so you don't lose it if you change phones. That's the whole point of the account: to keep your records safe and synced, not to mine them.

What Smara never does

• No bank connection. There is no "link your bank" feature. Smara has no access to your bank accounts and never logs in to anything on your behalf. It only ever sees what you type or upload.
• No scraping. We don't pull transactions from your bank, your email, or any third party.
• We never sell your data. Your records are not a product. We do not sell, rent, or trade them, and we don't run third-party advertising trackers against them.

Statement uploads

If you upload a statement (a Premium feature), Smara reads it to lay the transactions out for you to review. We use it to do that job and to improve how Smara recognises statement formats, not to build a profile of you, and never to share with anyone.

Exporting and deleting your data

You can export your data from inside the app at any time, on every plan including free. It's yours to take with you. You can also delete your account, which removes your data from our systems. If you'd like help with either, email support@trysmara.com.

What this website collects

This marketing site (trysmara.com) is deliberately light on tracking:

• The Founding Deal form. If you enter your email to request a Founding Deal code, we store that email so we can send you the code and a couple of launch notes. You can unsubscribe anytime, and you can ask us to delete it.
• Analytics. If we use analytics, it's a privacy-friendly, cookieless tool that counts visits without tracking you across the web or recording your session. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels.

Retention

We keep your in-app data for as long as your account exists. We keep a Founding Deal email until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. Where the law gives you rights over your personal data (to access it, correct it, or have it deleted), we honour them; just write to us.

Where your data is handled

Smara runs on established cloud infrastructure, and your data may be processed on servers outside your country. We choose providers that handle data securely and only work with the parts needed to run the app: storage, authentication, and sending the emails you ask for.

Children

Smara isn't designed for children, and it isn't meant for anyone under the age the app stores require in your country.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and note the date at the top. We'll keep it plain.
