Terms of use
Last updated June 2026
These terms cover using Smara, the app and this site, both made by The Moo Projects. We've kept them plain. Using Smara means you're okay with what's here.
Your account
You'll need an account to use Smara. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you're responsible for what happens under your account. Use Smara for your own record-keeping, and don't try to break, abuse, or resell it.
Plans and what they include
Smara has a free plan and a paid Premium plan. The free plan gives you the whole app on web and mobile, unlimited fast entry and suggestions, import and export, cloud sync, two bank-statement uploads a month, and up to 2 goals and 2 budgets. Premium adds unlimited statement uploads and unlimited goals and budgets. Smara has no ads on any plan. We may adjust what's in each plan as Smara grows; we won't quietly take away something you've paid for.
Billing
Premium is USD 3.99 per month or USD 29.99 per year, and there's no trial, you start on the free plan and upgrade whenever you want. If you subscribe on the web, billing is handled by our payment provider, which acts as the merchant of record for the sale; we never see or store your card details. If you subscribe through an app store (Google Play today, the App Store when iOS ships), billing, renewals and cancellations follow that store's rules and you manage the subscription in your store account. Either way, a subscription renews automatically until you cancel.
The Founding Lifetime Deal
The Founding Lifetime Deal is a one-time purchase of USD 59.99 that gives you Premium for the life of the app, including features we add later. A few honest specifics:
- It's open to the first 500 buyers. Once that's reached, or once we close the offer, it's gone.
- You request a code with your email here; the code is single-use, tied to that email, and good for 30 days. Requesting a code doesn't reserve a slot; only a completed purchase counts toward the 500.
- The USD 59.99 is paid once through Google Play. "Lifetime" means for as long as Smara operates as a service. It isn't a personal guarantee that the app runs forever, and it isn't transferable to someone else.
Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel a subscription at any time. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Premium until the end of the period you've already paid for, and nothing you've entered is deleted.
For purchases made on the web: if you'd like a refund, email us within 14 days of a payment and we'll refund it, no fuss. We don't refund time already used on a longer plan (for example, most of an annual term). Refunds are issued through our payment provider back to your original payment method. For purchases made through an app store, refunds follow that store's process (for Google Play, Google's refund policy). If something's wrong on our end, email us either way and we'll help sort it out.
Your data
What you put into Smara stays yours. You can export it anytime and delete your account when you like. How we handle data is covered in the Privacy page; the short version is no bank connection, no scraping, and never sold.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Smara running well, but we can't promise it's never down or never has a bug. Smara is provided "as is," without warranties beyond those the law won't let us waive, and we're not liable for indirect or incidental losses. We may update the app, these terms, or the plans over time; if we change these terms, we'll update the date above.
